It is with great sadness that the GRCC Board is announcing the passing of Bruce Gibbons at the age of 64 on February 26th, 2016.
Bruce has been on the GRCC Board for several years, first in the Secretary role and, until his death, as GRCC 1st Vice President.
Bruce’s passion was the Golden Retriever breed and his Golden Retrievers. He took great pride as a breeder through his kennel, Rideauview Goldens. Bruce was a respected CKC & AKC Obedience & Rally Trial Judge, who was known for his encouragement and support of the exhibitors.
He was extremely proud of the results and accomplishments of his Golden Retrievers and earned the Top Obedience Dog in Canada award with three different dogs over a 17 year span, as well as being in the top ten rankings on numerous occasions.
The pinnacle of his obedience career was competing with Bright at The Crufts Obedience World Cup (2013) in Birmingham, England,
Although he was sick at the time, Bruce judged obedience at the 2015 GRCC National Specialty and came home to start chemo treatments the week after the National.
Through his work with his obedience school and private lessons, Bruce influenced many competitors and imparted his good sportsmanship values.
In lieu of flowers the family would prefer that donations be made to Myeloma Canada.
Cremation has already occurred and a Celebration of Life will take place at a later date.
